Analytics
Unnorth uses Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate visits and game balance. Analytics runs only on the exact production hostname unnorth.com. It does not run on development, preview, or GitHub Pages hostnames, or while the game is in debug mode.
Analytics cookies and advertising storage remain denied. Google may receive cookieless measurement requests, including ordinary network and browser metadata. Cookieless measurement is not the same as no data collection and does not guarantee anonymity.
What is sent
- A sanitized page location containing only the production path and validated source, medium, and campaign values.
- The referring site's origin, without its path, query, or fragment.
- Successful access, round starts and completions, scores, timing, and guess outcome counts.
- Canonical country names when a country is found or missed.
- Aggregate counts of map drags, rotation-button presses, and sound changes for a completed round.
What is not sent
Unnorth does not send raw guesses, passwords, failed password attempts, user IDs, advertising identifiers, or the local high score. The high score remains only in the browser's local storage.
Your browser settings
If the browser reports that Do Not Track is enabled, Unnorth does not load the Google Analytics script or send analytics events. Blocking Google Analytics also does not affect access or gameplay.
Retention and reporting limits
Google Analytics event-level and user-level data retention is configured for 14 months. Because analytics storage remains denied, unique-user, returning-user, session, cohort, and retention reporting can be incomplete or modeled. Unnorth uses aggregate event counts, traffic-source totals, and daily trends instead.
